Who's a United Methodist?

We are passionate about our United Methodist heritage.  Today, the United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds and opens doors through active engagement with our world. Its mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

As United Methodists, we put our faith into action.  We believe God loves ALL people, and so we live by following God’s example.  Throughout our rich tradition, beginning with John Wesley in the 18th century, United Methodists have emphasized a life dedicated to embodying God's grace by welcoming and serving everyone.

As United Methodist Christians, we believe Jesus Christ is the most powerful example of a complete life lived to the fullest in God's love.  We also hold that salvation, both for individuals and communities, is never a one-and-done event, but is rather a life-long journey we take together toward perfect love in Jesus Christ and universal citizenship in the Kingdom of God.

Our denomination’s founder, John Wesley, started the Methodist movement in 18th century England as a student at Oxford. Even today, his emphasis on living out our faith for God and neighbor, and his unique application of reason and experience to understanding God and God’s will for our lives, remain central aspects of our United Methodist faith.
